Another project of OR Quilters, is to hand-quilt a quilt for Luther Crest Bible Camp.  Quilts are donated from many congregations to assist in their fund-raiser.   This year's Luther Crest Quilt top was donated anonymously.  It would be interesting to know the identity of the individual that gave it to the OR Quilters so that a thank you may be extended...THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

"Grandmother's Flower Garden" is a lovely mosaic styled quilt that captures your interest. It is truly an old quilt pattern, probably dating back to the 1700's.  Early names fro this pattern were honeycomb and mosaic.
During the 1930's, most eggs were produced on rural farms with small flocks that scratched their way around the barnyard.  The Farmer's Wife was usually responsible for caring for her chickens and the money received from that sale of the eggs was hers.  Surely, some fabric was purchased with the precious funds, and along with chicken feed sacks, came the quilts uniquely associated with the Depression Era.

During a time of hardship in America, there were still many things for which to be thankful.  Life was simple, people neighborly and quilts not only useful but also an extraordinary expression of imagination.  This quilt top, "Grandmother's Garden" was probably sewed together during that time.  Now, it's a privilege to finish the stitching of the pattern and enjoy its beauty.  Its size is 75" x 87".  It will make for a cozy throw or coverlet and a wonderful addition to one's home.

The Luther Crest Quilt top was hand-stitched by the following:  Mary Tatge; Dorothy Schloendorf; Bernice Nordaune; Alvera Haugen; Lu Hanson; Elaine Mitteness and Dianne Doscher.
